Forget the fact that she is 42 and I am 38. That she is half-Cuban while I am half-black. She and I are of similar minds on two very important things – water and poop. Yes, I am taking it there. We’ll start with the easier topic – poop. I really don’t understand why people are so reticent to speak about poop. I know it’s gross – it’s garbage coming out of your body. But we all do it, and we all need to do it regularly. One of the easiest ways to make sure this happens… WATER.
Water flushes out toxins – it gets rid of waste through sweat, urination and helps get that poop going. It maintains regularity, aids in digestion and helps prevent constipation. Flushing out those toxins will help you be in a better mood – feeling cleaner and healthier. You will feel better and that will, in turn make you happier! Cameron (you know, my sister from another mister) says it gets her going in the morning. She drinks a full liter upon waking up. That’s a bit much for me. But I have already consumed 20 ounces by 10AM so that’s good. And I certainly feel more awake with each glass. Don’t get me wrong, I also have a cup of coffee around 9AM. But re-hydrating after eight hours of no water (sleep) is more rejuvenating than caffeine. I know it’s hard to believe but give it a shot – you’ll be surprised.
Rounding out the reasons to drink more water:
- It increases energy and relieves fatigue
- Promotes weight loss (drink a glass before a meal to help fill up your tummy)
- Improves your complexion (nothing moisturizes like water!)
- Boosts your immune system
- Prevents cramps and sprains (water keeps those joints lubricated making pain and injury less likely)
- Natural headache remedy (and if you’re properly hydrated, you can prevent one from even coming on!)
Anyway, I’m off to refill my lovely Kate Spade Saturday glass for the third time this morning. I keep a glass on my desk all day. Having it handy helps me drink more – you do it subconsciously and suddenly you realize that you are hitting your goal of 8 x 8 (eight 8-oz glasses per day). My mom was the hardest sell – but she now keeps a bottle by her bed and drinks throughout the day and has (finally) admitted that she feels better for it. So grab a glass – best thing about it? It’s free!
