Back when we last met (or when I last wrote about my weekly workout plans) I had high hopes for myself. While they weren’t all smashed to bits, I wasn’t as successful as I had hoped. I am not the best when it comes to working out while away from home. That said, I did try something new! So let’s get to it.
Tuesday, May 19th I went back to The Run and had a MUCH better experience. The class starts with a warmup which is used by the treadmill to set up your workout – it calibrates how fast it thinks you can run. I learned from my first visit that the treadmill is wrong. It thinks I am some sort of Kenyan marathon runner. I am a doughnut loving yogi. With this in mind, I readjusted my pace and had a great workout! My knee wasn’t killing me, I actually engaged my core – which I never do. And now plan to (happily) return!
Wednesday I went to YoGanesh – I just love that little studio. The vibe is always great and it consistantly leaves me with a smile on my face. I originally planned to give Pilates on the Square another chance on Thursday but my “lady time” thought better of that plan. And on Friday I was supposed to go to Bikram but my boss’ plane was delayed and we used that time to work. Fun.
My husband, kids and I went to Kansas City for the long weekend to visit his family. While there, I was brave and tried my first ever Zumba class. I have always been hesitant to go because I’m not a Woo Girl, and there was some “woo-ing” but the fun part totally outweighed the “woos.” I can fully see why my friend makes a point of going three times a week. There are actual routines to learn so if I ever went to another class, I would want to be consistant about it. Will see what Classpass has to offer.
Back in NYC, today I took a class at Laughing Lotus. I took “Lotus Fly” which is listed as an advanced class – noting that there will be arm balances and inversions. I can do both so I figured I would give it a shot. The teacher started by telling us that being an “advanced” yogi is more about what you bring to the mat than what you can or can not do. And then we went straight in to headstand. It was super hard but I loved it and will be back for sure.
Rounding out the week I have classes planned at Yoga Shanti on Thursday and Friday as well as my usual Bikram on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sunday night a friend and I are signed up for Sound Off Deep Flow Yoga. We are each given noise cancelling headphones so we can only hear the music and the instructor but not the people around us. We’ll see.
tl:dr I did some things but not as much as I had hoped. Tomorrow is another day.
