National Doughnut Day

It’s cute that y’all need a day. This is just how I live my life. I have received a bunch of emails, texts and phone calls regarding this national day of recognition. Most offering me facts that I already knew – like the fact that the average person only eats 31 per year. How sad.

Next time you have a Naked juice, know that you could have had three doughnuts for the same amount of sugar. You know that Caramel Frappuccino you bought from Starbucks this morning? Six doughnuts worth of sugar. 8oz of orange juice? Two and a half doughnuts. Doughnuts are healthy! No, kidding. But for all the crap I get about eating them, they aren’t as bad as you might think. Plus, yoga!

I originally planned to share thoughts on a bunch of doughnuts from Peter Pan in Brooklyn. However, my friend who went for me (he lives around the corner) said they were sold out when he showed up. At 9AM! But no bother… In the end, today I had a plain doughnut from Dough – and really, isn’t that the way it should be. Eating a gorgeous, off menu, just out of the oven yeast doughnut from my favorite store of all. Given to me, for free, by my AM Bae. How did I even THINK of straying.

I was also able to introduce someone new to the beauty that is Dough, via a Chocolate with Cocoa Nibs doughnut. He is the one who sent me the USA today article. His response after eating the doughnut: Hold the phone. The only fact you need is that THAT doughnut I just tried was the greatest thing ever created.

Today is a day of celebration indeed.

And we’ll do that Peter Pan tasting next week, don’t you worry.
